All of the sudden I'm having problems with connecting to the internet using my Dell Dimension 3000 through Cicsco Linksys Cable Gateway. In network shows that I'm connected by get DNS Server not found when try to go into Internet Explorer. I have checked cables, replaced network adapter still have problems. Any help would be great. 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

We specialize in Enterprise solutions this site, servers, storage, SANs, Virtualization, etc .. we're usually not the best resource for handling questions on consumer systems, so I'll try to point you in the right direction. The best place to ask this question is on the Dell Community Forum (www.dellcommunity.com) ... specifically, you should ask this question on this board --> http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board?board.id=dim_other

I'm suspecting that your DNS entries have either become manually set or corrupt somehow. Open a command window and type "ipconfig /all" .. this will list your default gateway and DNS servers.

First try to ping the default gateway. If that works then try to ping the DNS servers. If you can't ping them, then the DNS is down, or incorrectly set. Check the network settings properties and see if the setting for DNS has been changed from "Obtain DNS automatically" to "Use the following DNS server" ... usually if you set it back to obtain automatically and then enable/disable the adapter to get a new address, you're good to go.

If you can't ping the default gateway, then you need to check the cisco cable gateway for configuration problems.

Hope that points you in the right direction.

In our nature, we can't help but help :-)

It's all about getting the most amount of eyeballs on the problem, and you'll most likely find the most eyes that are most familiar with desktop problems over on the Dell Community Forums, great resource if you didn't know about it.
