Windows Server Virtualization - Hyper-V
Hyper-V is an advanced server virtualization technology that enables Microsoft Windows Server 2008 to be able to act as a parent or host partition for child partitions / virtual machines.
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 included a Release Candidate version of Hyper-V. In June of 2008 Microsoft issued an update which raised Hyper-V to a final or released version. This page is the wiki home for Hyper-V on DellTechCenter.com.

Hyper-V Server on DellTechCenter - A page with details about how to install and configure the FREE Hyper-V Server 2008
The server must first be installed with Windows Server 2008. Once the OS is installed the Hyper-V role is installed via the Add Roles wizard from Server Manager. Note that Hyper-V as shipped with Windows Server 2008 is not the final released version.

In order to update Hyper-V to the final released version an update must be downloaded from Microsoft and applied. A reboot is requrired after installing this patch.

Windows Server 2008 and Hyper-V Installation
Windows Server 2008 includes Hyper-V as a role that can be installed. It requries that either Intel VT or AMD-V hardware virtualization be enabled on the processor by selecting to enable hardware virtualization in the BIOS. The installation also requires a reboot.The server must first be installed with Windows Server 2008.
