My customer and I need some guidance. Our goals... > migrate from Exhange 2003 to 2007 > the excahnge 07 setup will be running on server 2008 > this will require him to move from mixed to native mode on his server 2003 DC
Problem: >moving to native on the DC will be an issue for his one remaining server running windows 2000 >the server running windows 2000 is acting as an IPX gateway for there glorious novel box
Question: >can we run the IPX gateway in a MS VHD file on the DC and still move from mixed to native? >if not...any other ideas?

In Windows 2000 domains, all domain controllers act as peers, with all members containing the AD services database with equal read/write privileges similar. Determine whether to create a new domain in a new forest, a new domain in an existing forest, or to add a domain controller to an existing domain to Windows Server 2003 and 2008. But if you mix Windows 2000 with Windows Server 2003 and 2008 domain controllers in the same forest, they will operate as if they are all Windows 2000 domain controllers, and several of the AD improvements in Windows Server 2003 and 2008 will not be available. When all Windows 2000 domain controllers have been upgraded to Windows Server 2003 or 2008, the functionality level can be advanced to the newer version, providing access to all the new features.

OpenManage 5.4 won't detect the CD from Microsoft we received via the MAPS (Microsoft Action Pack) for Partners program as a valid Installation Media for Server 2008 Standard. What exactly is the System Build looking for?

On a fresh install two virtual USB devices are installed, virtual floppy and virtual CD-ROM. Why are these installed and how do you use them?

These are most likely the virtual media features of the Dell Remote Access Card (DRAC) that is installed in the system. During boot-up you can press CTRL-E when prompted to be able to set the IP address of the DRAC. Once set, you can navigate to the DRAC via web browser and use the VIrtual Media.

We have worked diligently with our vendors and Microsoft to get over 90% of drivers included in the OS build. Please continue to look to the dell.com/longhorn website for beta driver releases starting late next month.
